OMG....We have a daughter!!!

We have a room that's not painted, no nursery furniture and not a single diaper...but...we have the most important thing of all...a DAUGHTER!! Born at 1:50 12/21/12....I can't believe it!! She weighs 3 pounds and is on the ventilator; otherwise doing well...just..premature...I say 30 weeks Dr. Anju says 29 weeks,...anyway..we are on cloud 9 yet terrified!! We can't wait to see her!! We are to anticipate a 6 week NICU stay..so we have a little time to get things together...but it is so hard not jumping on the first plane out of here!! Of course, we have to get all of the legal papers found and copied, make arrangements for our other children and dogs...let G's work know....I just can't believe it..I am so happy..yet so scared...they sent us pics...she looks so good! I know she's tiny but she looks big in the pics...I will try to share those later...right now just can't concentrate!! If anybody has had a baby born that early, especially in India, all helpful hints welcome! Also, would like to know how long your stay was in India and how your baby/babies are doing! Also, if there are any parents in Dehli picking up their baby would you mind checking on ours? Please? Or if there are any intended parents who plan on touring the facility anyway would you mind checking on ours? It is killing us not being there...I had hoped for another month but she had other plans!!! All prayers and advice appreciated!!

  7. Congratulations!
Our twins are now 31 1/2 weeks, but our SM was recently admitted to the hospital. No clear answers as to why (despite requests for info.), just "abdominal pains" is all they've said for the past 2 days. Anyway, I'm just saying, because who knows, we may end up being there sooner than we had hoped too.
All the best to you, our thoughts are with you! Cheers!

  8. Congratz! Don't worry, a 30 weeker is very viable with modern technology. She will grow fast, she may have a ng tube for feeding at first, but don't be too scared or worried!
Get some clothes for preemies, Carters has very cute preemie clothes! Don't buy too many, she will grow very fast!
If you are looking for a formula for preemies, Enfacare is pretty good. Check with your insurance (later on), they may cover the cost of Enfacare.
Pampers has diapers for preemies (size P), very gentle on tiny bums!

  11. I'm emailing, but just wanted to say I am so super duper thrilled for you guys (and my Scarlett who will now have her very own down south pen pal)! Love, a Mom of a 29 weeker gal who is crawling and chatting her way through the day just as well as any other 9 month old out there. xoxo

So glad to hear Scarlett is doing well and that you have Hayden settled in...I am so thankful for the time I had to spend with you and Scarlett and Hayden while in India for the egg retrieval....I think you were sent to me to prepare me for the rest of our journey!! Best wishes and take care!! xoxo

  12. Congratulations what wonderful news! I'm sure she will be fine - they take wonderful care of the babies in the nursery. Our twins are due on 24.12.12 and we can't arrive now until 04.01.13 so if born before we're there then ours will be in the nursery too receiving the very best care (our babies birth weights have been very low the whole way through the pregnancy too). Try to relax and enjoy this your wonderful Christmas gift!!

  13. My blog has all the exhaustive details of spending 2 1/2 months in India with my babies born at 27 weeks. I wasn't in Delhi though. Take the time to get everything ready and pack WELL. Bring any document you might need to get them home, and clothes that open in front for kangaroo care. I have a packing list on my site www.10Milesuphillinthesnow.blogspot.com Bring preemie and newborn clothes. A carseat and stroller is a lot to lug around and only useful at an airport in my opinion. Congratulations!

  14. First of all, super, duper congrats to you guys this is absolutely awesome and it just goes to show that perseverance pays off.

Secondly, I just love all the LOVE that overflows from all the bloggers out there that have "been there, done that". It warms my heart, especially at this time of year, when people who have never met each other offer up a helping hand. It is so encouraging to see such good out there. Enjoy your holidays. Sending much love and prayers and good thoughts...

    1. Thanks for the kind words! I agree...the love from all of the bloggers is what makes this possible. I would have never had the courage to try this if not for everyone in the surro community.

  15. Wow what a shock for you. Congratulations! I am sure all will be fine. Our twins were 31 weeks and thankfully we were very blessed with their health overall. I hope that you can meet your daughter soon. My advice is to Kangaroo care as much as you can if it is possible.

  17. Congratulations!! Our Amy & Lara were born 30/1 weeks at 1.2 & 1.5 kgs.
They are now one year old and doing just fine. The 4 wk nicu stay was mainly for them to put on weight , monitoring and keeping away from germs. My blog also gives some advice which may be helpful. Look fwd to the photos. Xx

  18. Thank you all for your kind words and advice!!! We are so blessed to be a part of such a thoughtful surro community. It has been overwhelming to receive such support from people we have never met...yet, feel so close to...thank you for the nice comments and emails...we don't know when we are headed to India...looking at a 6 week hospital stint...due to the early arrival we have nothing in order here...but, we just can't wait to get our hands on her!! I know she is being taken care of now...just like she was before she was born...I still can't believe it's real...I won't believe it until we are home with her, I guess...surrogacy is the ultimate emotional roller coaster..the ride is intense, scary at times...but so worth it in the end. For those of you that are just considering surrogacy in India..don't be scared..try it..just be prepared...it rarely happens on the first try...but, if you hang in there..it is so worth it...

  19. A close friend of ours had their baby born at 29 weeks and he is doing fine. He had to have a minor surgery and precautionary heart equipment, but that was only for about 2 months. Now he's bigger and bolder than his counterparts.
